Abstract

In After Finitude (2006), Meillassoux re-launched the question of realism in philosophy through an incisive critique of transcendental philosophy and all philosophies derived from it. Thus, many recent philosophical discussions have been directed at responding to Meillassoux´s critics of correlationism. However, psychoanalysis, in its Lacanian version, has a perspective to contribute in this debate. In this work we will try, first of all, to characterize Meillassoux´s speculative realism by emphasizing points of tension with the philosophical tradition inaugurated by Kant. Secondly, we will try to situate Lacanian psychoanalysis critically in the recent philosophical discussion about new realisms. For these purposes, we must characterize the way in which the subject and the real is understood in psychoanalysis. Finally, after contrasting both perspectives, we will make a critical exposition of the results achieved, placing as a cornerstone the distinction between reality and the real.
